SOS 2017

My favourite topic to do was, sustainability. It was my favourite because:
I got to take part in an ongoing event helping our waterways.
I had the privilege to present at te oro, in front of all the primary schools.
I also enjoyed being around positive people even when things were hard.

Confidence Course.

The Confidence Course.

I didn't want to do the confidence course because the water was muddy and smelled so disgusting. But when it came to the time for my group to do the confidence course the were cheering me on to do. But it was freezing and cold and the last thing I needed was to smell so disgusting. So I had decided to go and do then confidence course. I was heading to go to the confidence course, feeling cold and numb. The first the muddy course I did was the tunnel. I went through the tunnel and there was mud everywhere. When I had come out of the tunnel, There was mud all over my legs. The next course was so gorse. It was a pool filled with mud water and there was mud at the bottom at the bottom. I stepped into the mud and sank right down into the water. I walked through the mud. There was a rope and I had to dive under the rope. I dived under the rope, when I dived under the rope, all the yuck water went straight into my mouth and it tasted so gorse. The water tasted so yuck and I smelled like a dog. When I came out of the water my whole body was numb and I felt like I was going to drop to the ground. I went through a couple more courses and at the end I had a pretty good experience and enjoyed my time.

Push & Pull Factors

What are push and pull factors?  Push factors are negative things about a place that makes you want to leave. Now that you know that, pull factors are exactly the opposite.  My elders have migrated from Tuvalu to New Zealand for a better living.  Furthering their education was another, also seeking for job opportunities. Tuvalu had fewer opportunities, that's what made my elders decided to move to New Zealand. They've found New Zealand a clean and stable environment. Their overall experience was an amazing one. They had met their long lost families and friends whilst in New Zealand.

Tokelau is an small island, which has a maximum of 500 people. The population at Tokelau is dropping everyday. The education at Tokelau is very poor which means the children have to travel by boat to go to school to get an education and when they have finished school the parents have to chose if they are going to send there children over seas to get an better education and learn more knowledge of the outside world. The Tokelau island has always been ruled by the elders. The elders make all the decision that happen on the island. The elders make sure that everybody on the island has a job. The elders have also allowed the women to attend meetings and to do certain jobs. The people find it hard to make Tokelau a good home because the people are scared that who left to get an better education would never return back to the island. The elders have made it compulsory that the people all have to participate in the Tokelau team sports. Some of the people on the island are becoming lazy and are relying on the shops.

Rap for Healthy Foods

Choice, choice, it’s all about choice!
When it comes to your health, you do have a voice.
Choice, choice, it’s all about choice,
When it comes to your health, you gotta have a voice

Eat your fruits and veggies at every meal.
To keep your body healthy, improve how you feel.
Apples, bananas, grapes, and cherries,
Melon, kiwi, pears, and STRAWberries
Carrots, peas, beans, and tomatoes,
spinach, yams, rice, and baked potatoes.
These are healthy food choices you can make,
there are much more, besides candy and cake.
Sugary foods can give your teeth black holes,
and make it hard to reach your basketball goals.

Fat and greasy foods are bad for your heart;
they make you too heavy you know that’s not smart!
If you get the munchies, or a snack-attack,
pull a piece of fruit from your school backpack.
When your throat gets dry, to cure your thirst,
say no to pop, drink spring water first.
Push your plate away before your belt gets tight,
take your time benny boy, enjoy every bite.

Cause it’s, choice, choice, it’s about choice.
When it comes to your health you do have a voice.
Choice, Choice, it’s all about choice!
When it comes to your health you GOTTA have a voice!

Now breakfast is the meal you never wanna skip.
Like filling the gas tank before you take a trip.
Now that you’re eating healthy every day,
flip your X-box off, leave the house and play.
Do what you love, play your number-one sport,
let’s shoot, pass, and dribble on the b-ball court.
Stick with the plan, and your day will come,
you’ll get picked to play, and have a ton-a-fun.

Choice, choice, it’s about choice!
When it comes to your health you do have a voice.
Choice, choice, it’s all about choice!
When it comes to your health you GOTTA have a voice!

Don’t get up yet, cause we’re not through;
got another rockin’ rhyme to rap to you.
After losing weight, you can’t get slack,
‘cause the Blubba Hill Gang will surely come back.
They creep late at night, while you’re snoozing in bed,
Stuff n Gut and his boys will try to get in your head.
Bluebird chips, $1 worth of lollies, fizzy's,
Wanna tease you, they won’t make it easy.
Don’t let’em tempt you with a bowl of Chunky-Monkey.
And turn you back into a chubby food flunkie.
The Cardio Kidd, and Fat Fighting Force,
will help you reach your goals, and stay on course.
You can do it, Benny, you got to believe!
Take it day by day, and you will achieve!

Just never make sports more important than school,
‘Cause failing in the classroom is really not cool.
If you’re called mean names, just “smile and wave!”
Don’t let ’em steal your joy, you GOT to be brave!
Think for yourself why follow the crowd?
You wanna be a leader, make your family proud.

One last point, to please consider,
There are other young people that need to get fitter.
If they come to you and ask for your advice,
Share what you’ve learned, cause it pays to be nice!

We hope this little rhyme, helped you understand,
The healthy life you want is right in your hand.
Your lesson’s over now, things should be clearer,
The only one can stop you is the person in the mirror.

Choice, choice, it’s all about choice,
When it comes to your health, you do have a voice.
Choice, choice, it’s all about choice,

When it comes to your health, you GOTTA have a voice!

Healthy Foods

One of the issues in our community is food. Especially what we're putting in our mouths that are causing physical issues. Such as heart attacks, strokes, type 2 diabetes, organ failures etc. Our group's top priority is persuading people in our community to start eating healthy. I strongly believe that Glen Innes can make a change to their eating and health. Firstly, we could get rid of the fast food restaurant's that contains the most grease in their food. Such as KFC, Mac Donalds, Carls Jnr, Pizza Hut, Dominos, and bakeries. Instead of those buildings, we could have fruit and veggie stores. Like I said previously,"Our group's top priority is persuading people in our community to start eating healthy." Our progress upon 'Healthy Foods' is going great and our group especially is waiting to make a change in our society.
